Ancient civilization
thought to be one of the first ever. It is thought that the use of
the wheel started there. The Sumerian people were certainly the first
to gather in city-states and develop a system of writing, as well
as many other "firsts." Based on the lowlands around the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the Sumerians were vulnerable to attack.
They were eventually conquered by the Akkadians. Major city-states
included Ur, Uruk, Kish, and Lagash.
Source
of Information
Most of the knowledge on Sumeria comes through the theology studies
by the Jewish scholar/researcher Zacharia Sitchen,
who has brought to life the translations of ancient Sumerian cuneiform
writings which he has devoted most of his life to understanding. His
theories open doorways into ancient times, and are his theories, based
on the interpretation of his translations and pictograms he has studied.
What is presented here is therefore not based on the Ascended Masters'
teachings, but does collaborate with them and will be noted the source
so as not to confuse theory from fact.
Zecharia
Sitchin's Background
Zecharia Sitchin was born in Russia and raised in Palestine, where he
acquired a profound knowledge of modern and ancient Hebrew, other Semitic
and European languages, the Old Testament, and the history and archeology
of the Near East. He is one of the few scholars who is able to read
and understand Sumerian. Sitchin attended and graduated from the University
of London, majoring in economic history.
See "The
12th Planet: Book I Chronicles of a Planet" by Z. Sitchin for more
information.
Facts on Sumer
The Sumerian speaking people settled in the land they called Sumer,
in a region of the Fertile Crescent that lay along the southern portions
of the valley of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers. The area is
located just before those great tributaries dump their waters into the
Persian Gulf -- in an area which is now known as southeastern Iraq.
The Greeks later called the area “Mesopotamia”, meaning
“between the rivers”. To the northeast (modern day
Iran) was the Zagros Mountains, while to the southwest was the Arabian
Desert.
What occurred there some 6,000 years ago, has been called “the
most crucial event in human history.” * Literally, seemingly
out of nowhere, a highly advanced, thriving culture appeared sometime
after 4000 B.C.E. (although some argue the Sumerians may have arrived
as early as 8500 B.C.E., or even much, much earlier). What is
clear is that the Sumerians developed a highly sophisticated system
of irrigation and agriculture, which took full advantage of the waters
of the two rivers. They quickly established magnificent cities,
advanced governing laws, and a written language.
The Sumerian language is the oldest sophisticated form of writing in
existence, and dates from at least 3400 B.C.E. The language itself
has been an enigma to linguists and scholars ever since the first tablets
of that ancient language were re-discovered in the nineteenth century.
It bears no relation, for example to ancient Arabic, Assyrian, Canaanite,
Egyptian, Indian, Jewish, Persian, or Phoenician, nor to any language
from contemporaneous African, Asian or European dialects.
Records left us by the Niburans include stone-carved star charts that
map Neptune, Uranus, Pluto--three planets beyond eye-range from Earth.
The maps show routes through our solar system. They show Earth's geographical
details, including the landmass under the Antarctic icesheet predicted
to show from the sky when, in 11,000 B.C., the sheet slid into the Antarctic
Ocean, causing the Deluge.
Zecharia Sitchin on Planet Nibiru and Anunnaki's
His Theory:
Sitchin believes that beings came from a planet in our solar system
starting a half million years ago, and did many of the things about
which we read in the Bible, in the book of Genesis.
He calls this planet Nibiru, which tranverses near our planet earth
about every 3,600 years. The planet is inhabited by intelligent human
beings who come and go between their planet and our planet and created
Homo sapiens. We look like them and he calls them the Anunnaki.
"The starting point
for my research goes back to my childhood and school days. I wondered
about the Nephilim, who are mentioned in Genesis, Chapter six, as
the sons of the gods who married the daughters of Man in the days
before the great flood, the Deluge.
The word Nephilim is commonly, or used to be, translated giants. There
were the days when there were giants upon the Earth. I questioned
this interpretation as a child at school, ....I questioned an interpretation
that seemed inaccurate, because the word, Nephilim, the name by which
those extraordinary beings, the sons of the gods were known, means
literally, "Those who have come down to Earth from the heavens."
"All the ancient scriptures, the Bible, the Greek myths, the
Egyptian myth and texts, the pyramid texts, everything, led to the
Sumerians, whose civilization was the first known one six thousand
years ago. I focused on Sumer, the source of these legends and myths
and texts and information. I learned to read the cuneiform Sumerian
texts and came upon their persistent and repeated statements that
those beings, whom the Sumerians called Anunnaki, came to earth from
a planet called Nibiru."
"Once I realized that this was the answer, that there is one
more planet, everything else fell into place. The meaning of the Mesopotamian
Epic of Creation on which the first chapters of Genesis are based
and all details about the Anunnaki, who they were and who their leaders
were and how they traveled from their planet to Earth and how they
splashed down in the Persian Gulf and about their first settlement,
their leaders and so on and so on, everything became clear. The Sumerians
had immense knowledge."
"They knew about Uranus and Neptune and described them and they
knew about Pluto. They were proficient in mathematics and, in many
respects, their knowledge surpassed modern times. They said, "All
that we know was told to us by the Anunnaki."
The Nibiruans allegedly landed
on Earth, colonized it, mining the Earth for gold and other minerals,
establishing a spaceport in what today is the Iraq-Iran region.
These aliens allegedly created a human slave-race to work their mines,
farms, and other enterprises creating man as Homo Sapiens, through genetic
manipulation with themselves and ape man Homo Erectus.
The Great Flood allegedly was an attempt to destroy the slave races
of humanity by a battle between the Nibiruans - Enlil and
Enki. Enlil and Enki were involved in a heated dispute
over whether to destroy or preserve the slave races and this power struggle
resulted in war.
Sumerian Literature
There is a literature that
is called "The Me," “the holy laws of heaven and earth.”
We see a glimpse into their culture in some of the titles to this writing:
- kingship and priesthood
- “the holy measuring
rod and line”,
- art of love making, art
of prostitution, procreation
- truth, the art of being
forthright
- slanderous and adorning
speech
- arts of power and treachery,
- deceit, plundering of
cities
- lamentations and rejoicings
of the heart
- holy purification rites
- fear, dismay, consternation
- counseling, giving of
judgments, making of decisions
- and even:
the making of beer!
Most open-minded historical and theological scholars agree the old and
new books of Genesis were extracted from the older Sumerian records,
if only because of the similarity in their Comparative Religions.
The "Enuma Elish" the Sumerian Epic of Creation, and Genesis
have a variety of common elements. Stories of a Great Flood and
Deluge, among other stories, are also common to both Sumerian and Biblical
accounts. The conclusion is that the Anunnaki were as real as
Biblical Noah, Moses and Abraham.

Religion of the Chaldeans
Chaldea was a region
in ancient Babylonia and the first recorded Chaldean king was around
612 B.C.
Chaldeans living before
Christian era believed that the chief god was APSU, the water god.
APSU and TIAMAT, the she dragon; begot ANU,
the lord of the heavens and the highest of the gods; ENLIL
lord of the winds; and ENKI, the ruler of the sweet
waters. The most important deity in the ancient Chaldean religion
was MARDUK, the son of EA, who championed the rest
of the gods in the plot by the evil she god TIAMAT to destroy the
gods. MARDUK defeated TIAMAT, split her in half and formed her into
the sky and the earth. He also destroyed her consort KINGU and from
his blood formed the first man and woman. In Chaldean mythology, men
were created to serve the gods and die because the gods retained life
for their own keeping. Religion is a response to the search for an
answer to the most fundamental and important questions about the meaning
of life, death, the universe, and the creation of all that exists
through the gods.
Tiamat
- Sumerian Texts
Ancient Sumerian texts indicate that Tiamat was struck by a large planet,
which moved it into its present orbit, and also created the Earth's
moon and the Asteroid Belt. In Sitchen's book, The Twelfth Planet
and The Cosmic Code, Sitchin outlines this "celestial
battle" as described in the Babylonian text Enuma elish.
The planet "Marduk"
(the Sumerian "Nibiru"), as it came into the solar system
on its 3,600-year clockwise (retrograde) elliptical course, struck Tiamat,
which was moving in its ordained counterclockwise orbit.
According to Sitchin's well-known translations, one of Marduk's
satellites struck Tiamat first, followed by two more
of Marduk's moons. Then Marduk itself, an enormous cosmic entity, struck
Tiamat, smashing one half of the planet into pieces,
which became what the Sumerians called the Great Band.
The remaining half of the
planet, which was struck by a smaller moon of Marduk, was catapulted
into a new orbit, along with a chunk of material which became its moon.
According to the Enuma elish, Tiamat's original moons were dispersed,
many changing the direction of their orbits and rotations.
There is indeed evidence of this great cataclysm in our solar system
today. Tom van Flandern, a specialist in Celestial Mechanics at the
US Naval Observatory, has suggested that the great rift on Mars may
be the impact site of a former moon, the moons of Neptune show evidence
of violent disruption, Mercury was originally a moon of Venus, Mars
once had many more moons, and Pluto and Charon are escaped moons of
Neptune.
Van Flandern finds the retrograde rotation of Venus peculiar, he believes
that our moon originated from the Pacific Basin of the Earth, and he
agrees that there is probably an undiscovered planet beyond Pluto which
belongs to our solar system. In addition, Hubble recently investigated
one of the largest asteroids, Vesta, and found evidence of differentiated
layers similar to the terrestrial planets, distinctive light and dark
areas like the face of our moon, and a geology similar to the Earth,
including evidence of ancient lava flows.
Tiamat
- Babylonia myths
In Babylonian myths, Tiamat is a huge, bloated female
dragon that personifies the saltwater ocean, the water of Chaos. She
is also the primordial mother of all that exists, including the gods
themselves. Her consort is Apsu, the personification of the freshwater
abyss that lies beneath the Earth. From their union, saltwater with
freshwater, the first pair of gods were born. They are Lachmu and Lachamu,
parents of Ansar and Kisar, grandparents of Anu and Ea.
In the creation epic Enuma elish, written around 2000 BCE, their descendants
started to irritate Tiamat and Apsu so they decided
to kill their offspring. Ea discovered their plans and he managed to
kill Apsu while the latter was asleep. Tiamat flew
into a rage when she learned about Apsu's death and wanted to avenge
her husband. She created an army of monstrous creatures, which was to
be led by her new consort Kingu, who is also her son. Eventually, Tiamat
was defeated by the young god Marduk , who was born in the deep freshwater
sea.
Marduk cleaved her body in half, and from the upper half he created
the sky and from the lower half he made the earth. From her water came
forth the clouds and her tears became the source of the Tigris
and the Euphratus. Kingu also perished, and from his
blood Marduk created the first humans.
